The Role of Women in the Face of Climate Change

I began my journey as an Italian architect, a freelancer, and a blogger focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to sustainability. Alongside being a poet, writer, and former teacher of Technology, Artistic Education, Design, and Art History in both Italy and Istanbul (Turkey)โ€”on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (M.A.E.)โ€”my passion lies in creativity expressed not only through the arts but also through activism and research.

My work spans articles, essays, novels, and aphorisms, as well as studies on long-term economics, climate change, sustainability, and world peace. I have actively participated in numerous United Nations webinars and Zoom conferences focused on peace, human rights, smart cities, and stakeholder engagement. Many of my publications can be found on platforms such as Academia.edu, LinkedIn, and La Recherche.

My long-term thinking, shaped during the COVID-19 lockdown while completing several certified online courses and final exams, is grounded in a clear realization: we must turn the page. To move forward, it is essential to convince consumers of the importance of adopting sustainable measures. Doing so does not merely help the environmentโ€”it is about saving humanity from the brink of extinction.

The role of women in combating climate change cannot be overlooked. In more affluent, technologically advanced societies, women have often adopted and reinforced consumerist habits and unsustainable behaviors. From the excessive use of disposable products to wasteful practices like discarding food and mimicking unrealistic lifestyles promoted on social media, the influence is significantโ€”especially among younger generations living in value-depleted, consumer-driven cultures.

Moreover, the environmental cost of armed conflictโ€”through weapons, explosives, and associated COโ‚‚ emissionsโ€”further highlights the urgency of the issue. We need a cultural shift. Women, in partnership with men, must become champions of a new global consciousnessโ€”one that respects and protects not only humanity but all forms of life on land, in the air, and in the oceans.

My current work focuses on engaging and expanding my WIM (Women In Motion) WhatsApp group, now over 70 members strong, with participants from across the globe, including Latin Americaโ€”thanks to the success of the recent Hispanic Forum under GPLT and RRM3, led by Prof. George Onsy. The forum’s impact is reflected in various international publications.

Iโ€™m also in the process of simplifying and adapting academic research, including my own, into accessible, actionable content for wider audiences. As we look toward a more stable periodโ€”perhaps by autumnโ€”we aim to grow this movement and continue delivering education and awareness programs.

In Brief, My Current Focus Includes:

  1. Environment, Womenโ€™s Empowerment, Child Brides, Education, and Mental Health
  2. SDG Goals: Climate Change & Pollution
  3. Sustainability, Smart Cities, and Stakeholder Engagement
  4. Pollution Control and Recycling
  5. A Proposal for COP Conferences
